What to do in Novorossiysk

The cruiser «Mikhail Kutuzov»

What can tourists visit in Novorossiysk? The first thing locals will recommend is to see the Mikhail Kutuzov cruiser, which you will be led to on Novorossiysk Republikaya Street. Nearby is the local naval station. "The Mikhail Kutuzov started being built in 1951, and was decommissioned in 1992. Soon after it was decommissioned, a museum exhibition of the Peter the Great Naval Museum was created on the cruiser. During a tour, you can walk around the entire cruiser and see her in detail.

Not far from the cruiser there is a sculpture of "The Giver of Water", which was put up to commemorate the launching of the waterworks in 1971. Prior to that, all drinking water was imported. Nearby is another sculpture, The Seaman's Wife. Locals also call it 'The Woman with the Child'.

Quay of admiral Serebryakov

The landscaped area on the shore of Tsemesskaya Bay is named after Admiral Serebryakov's quay. It is one of the most beautiful places in the city. The embankment looks especially spectacular during the flowering of roses, which add variety to the local landscape and give the granite embankment a soulful look. You can admire the Tsemesskaya Bay, the port and the mountains from various points along the promenade.

You can walk, rollerblade and cycle along the Novorossiysk embankment. There is no traffic here. Beautiful shrubs are planted along the edges of the paving stone paths. There are benches underneath the trees where you can sit and relax.

In the evening, lanterns are lit along the promenade, which looks very romantic. From the promenade you can walk down to the town's beach via wide staircases.

«Little Earth» Ensemble

Quay of admiral Serebryakov will take you to the memorial ensemble 'Malaya Zemlya'. This is a landmark monument-museum that many tourists seek to visit. It was created in 1982 in memory of the heroism of the soldiers-liberators of the city from the German occupiers during the Great Patriotic War. It was at this place that the defense took place for 225 days, and from here the assault began, as a result of which Novorossiysk was liberated. The name "Malaya Zemlya" was given to this site for its small size: the landing of Soviet soldiers was fixed on the territory of about 30 km2. On the field around you can see trenches and trenches from the time of the fighting.

In honor of the memorable event, 225 poplars were planted here, leading to the ship monument. It represents the bow of the ship, which seems to be rapidly crashing into the shore. It is complemented by sculptures placed on the ship. Inside there is a museum exposition — a Gallery of Military Glory with a mosaic panel. There is a Museum of military equipment nearby.

Sudzhuk spit

Among the sights in Novorossiysk that you can walk around in a day, the Sudzhuk spit stands out. It is located not far from the Malaya Zemlya memorial. On the Sudzhuk spit you can lie on the beach, and in the off-season it's a great place for walks. The spit juts into the sea for 800 metres and forms a lagoon. From it one can easily admire the sea and the hills on the other side of the bay. There is a monument to Andrei Mironov's character from 'The Diamond Arm' on Sudzhuk spit (although the episode with walking on water was filmed in Tuapse).

N. Ostrovsky House Museum

There is a house-museum of N. Ostrovsky in Novorossiysk, where the writer lived for several years when he met his future wife. The building was damaged during the war. Later it was restored, and in 1983 it was turned into a museum. Its visitors can look at pictures, books, documents and furniture. Separate exhibitions are devoted to the Great Patriotic War and the literature of Novorossiysk at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Planetarium named after Yuri Gagarin

The Star Room can accommodate 60 visitors at a time. The ZKP-1 projector works here to project an image of the solar system and the starry sky onto a large screen dome.

Almost every day the planetarium is full of people, as it is visited not only by tourists and astronomy enthusiasts, but also by ordinary schoolchildren from all over the city and the region.

Museum of the cement industry

Only in Novorossiysk can you visit the Museum of the Cement Industry. It was created on the basis of a cement factory in the last century. It tells the history of the industry since the 19th century. In the halls samples of products and technical equipment are presented; one can learn interesting details about the life of the plant and workers; a separate exhibition is devoted to the war theme; there is also an exposition honoring the author of the novel 'Cement' V. Gladkov, who worked in the Party cell of the plant for a while. In one of the halls, a mosaic panel depicting cement produced by different plants in the country attracts visitors' attention. Not far from the museum is the monument 'The Firing Wagon'.

Abrau-Durso

There are many attractions near Novorossiysk. Tourists often visit the famous Abrau-Durso champagne factory. The trip there takes only half an hour. The factory is built near a lake. It offers an excellent view of the vineyards and mountains. Visitors have a variety of tours available, from wine tasting to a tour of the underground tunnels. Grapes were first grown here back in 1874.

After a tour of the winery, you can walk around the mountainous area all day or stay at the winery to taste the wines and explore the Abrau Gallery of Light. Walking routes take you around the lake, the vineyard and the seashore. The shortest route is 5 km, the longest 16 km. Instead of walking you can relax by the freshwater lake, the water of which has an unusual emerald tint. Nearby there are fountains and an art park. You can take a boat trip on the lake. Not far from the plant is the Black Sea beach and Lake Bam, near which locals grow lotuses.
